İstanbul Resident’s Dog Allegedly Raped in Aksaray
Serap Koç, who resides in Istanbul, recounted that her dog Maya went missing when she was staying with her mother at their home in the Yeşilova town of Aksaray, and when Maya was found, it exhibited abnormal behaviors, indicating it might have been sexually assaulted, prompting a visit to the veterinarian for a check-up.
Confirmed by a Report
Upon Aksaray Agriculture and Forestry Directorate sending a letter to Konya Selçuk University, an examination was carried out by the university’s Veterinary Faculty regarding the incident, resulting in a report being published.
The report indicated the presence of human sperm-compatible cells in Maya’s body.
“Maya Was Missing for 13 Hours”
Describing the incident, Serap Koç stated that on the morning of May 12, 2025, she and her mother went out with their dog. She said, “When we checked the camera footage, they went out together, Maya hadn’t eaten its food yet, its routine is to take a walk for about 20 minutes, then come back to eat its food and usually stays in the yard. That day, they went out together with my mother, but Maya was not seen by anyone after that. She appeared on the camera of a nearby house around 10:20, but she didn’t return the same way. Later, she returned home around 23:10, approximately 13 hours later. We searched for Maya during this time. The next morning when I checked, Maya was at home.”
Applied for Legal Process
Koç, mentioning that Maya displayed abnormal behaviors after returning home, said, “She didn’t move from her place, didn’t eat, didn’t drink water. When we checked Maya, there was more bleeding in the anal area and a large swelling in the genital area. There was a liquid coming from the anal area and a large swelling. We called our veterinarian, they made a preliminary examination. They consulted their professor, who stated that there was a high probability of being sexually assaulted by a human. Therefore, we applied for the legal process.”
“Likelihood of Repetition Is High”
Expressing that the process is ongoing with HAYDİ team, and a DNA sample was sent to Konya, Koç said, “I am constantly in tears, my head is in a blur, I can’t sleep. The dog cannot sleep at all, the nights are spent constantly checking on her. I am worried because there is a high probability of repetition. The likelihood of those who do this to also do it to children is very high. That’s why I’m not considering staying silent. I plan to go wherever this issue leads. Because the general characteristic of these people starts with the dog, then moves on to children and women. Especially experiencing something like this in this region has shocked me a lot. I really thought Maya was safe here. I am very disturbed, my dog is already experiencing a great trauma. I find it difficult to take care of her. Even in this process, I can’t think clearly myself. Maya can’t pee, can’t poop, or does it with whimpering. She constantly licks her tongue, wakes up screaming at nights, shivering. These are very scary things. I feel really scared. I filed a complaint, an investigation has been launched. Maya was sent to Konya for DNA and sperm samples. She was taken on May 14th and brought back. The police station is examining the camera footage, they say they can’t find much, but I’m surprised because most houses are new and have a lot of cameras. Actually, I think there will definitely be something somewhere in new homes, that’s why I don’t want it to be covered up. I hope it will be found, my only wish is for it to be found.”
Complaint to CİMER
Following the report from Selçuk University on May 21, 2025, Serap Koç complained to CİMER on June 16, 2025, stating that through the report, it was confirmed that her dog was sexually assaulted by a person, “Thinking that the process had started, I got my lawyer involved and learned that no action has been taken on my behalf yet. My lawyer was also going to request the report from the university. But despite my filing a complaint on May 13, 2025, and the university sending the report to the prosecutor on May 30, 2025, no action has been taken yet. I demand the prosecutor to start the process as soon as possible and the medical examination report to be sent to me. I also demand an explanation for why this process has not been initiated and requested to be informed,” she said.
Afterward, on June 24, 2025, Koç complained to CİMER once again. It remains a matter of curiosity whether the perpetrator will be found and whether necessary legal actions will be initiated against them.
